Zoloft, experienced some of the serious side effects such

Zoloft, also called sertraline, which is an antidepressant,
that belongs to a class of drugs named selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors
(SSRIs)(“Zoloft: Uses, Dosage, Side Effects & Warnings-Drugs.com”, 2017).  Zoloft is called an SSRI because SSRIs can
relieve serious symptoms of depression because Depression is assumed
to be the reason behind decreased levels of serotonin (“Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs)”,
2016). The generic name of Zoloft, sertraline, alters the
chemicals in the brain because there could be an imbalance in those who
experience depression and other disorders such as panic disorder and PTSD (“Zoloft:
Uses, Dosage, Side Effects & Warnings-Drugs.com”, 2017). Either tablets or
an oral solution can administer this drug where the oral solution has to be
diluted (“Zoloft (Sertraline Hcl): Side Effects,
Interactions, Warning, Dosage & Uses”, n.d.).
Common side effects of this drug include skin
rashes, difficulty breathing, swelling of the facial region, nausea, seizures,
hyperactivity, and trouble sleeping; other side effects include
decreased levels of sodium or mania episodes (“Zoloft: Uses, Dosage, Side Effects
& Warnings-Drugs.com”, 2017). Zoloft has the side effects that it does
because it is essentially altering the chemicals in the brain. My uncle’s
doctor probably advised him stop taking the drug abruptly probably due to the
fact that my uncle may have experienced some of the serious side effects such
as seizures, blurred vision, manic episodes, or decreased levels of sodium
(“Zoloft: Uses, Dosage, Side Effects & Warnings-Drugs.com”, 2017). Another
reason why the doctor would tell my uncle to stop taking the drug abruptly is
because my uncle may have experienced serotonin syndrome or was having suicidal
thoughts. Some of those side effects are agitation, shivering, muscle
stiffness, or loss of coordination (“Zoloft: Uses, Dosage, Side Effects &
Warnings-Drugs.com”, 2017).
