Virtual we need (Rouse, 2017). Use of Virtual Communities

Virtual
Communities

All humans have significantly different
styles and interests that appeals to us. Traditionally, we would engage in
communities who share common styles and interests in order to further discuss
more about them. That same concept applies to virtual community, only that it
happens online.

Virtual means a digital version of
something. This version may not function as the exact copy but it works
similarly enough to be called as the digital version. Community is a group of
people that shares the same cause or interests who collaborates amongst
themselves in sharing ideas, and information. A virtual community consists of participants
that are scattered across the world regardless of geographical boundaries who
are involved in online discussions on mutual topics. It resembles real life
community but such that it occurs online as along as hardware, software and
connectivity requirements are fulfilled.

The first few virtual communities started
in 1979 by Usenet Newsgroups and The Well in 1985 (Riding & Gefen, 2006).
Ever since then, the number of virtual communities have been increasing.
Example of current virtual communities ranges from many themes such as
discussion boards, consumers-related, social networking, art communities,
ethnicity-based communities and many more.

The reason behind the existence of each
virtual communities depends on the individual’s interest and purpose.
Generally, many individuals engage in virtual community due to information
exchange which makes is the most popular reason. Social support comes next as
well as health/wellness and professional/occupational topics. Other than that,
the hunger for friendship is also a popular reason why virtual communities
exist in order for this individual to deal with their personal
interests/hobbies, pets and recreations.

Cloud Technology

Cloud
technology is known as cloud computing. It means, we are allowed to access and
store data and programs in the Internet as an alternative to our computers’
hard disks and it enables us to access data and applications whenever we need
(Rouse, 2017).

Use of Virtual Communities

The
use of virtual community in education is students can access the Internet
anywhere and anytime to do their assignments, view their courses and engage in
discussions. Students will have better understanding and enhance their
experience in learning.. The use of virtual community in businesses is
employees can contact the consumers through the Internet to do their worldwide
businesses from anywhere. They can help customers transact or encourage the
need for purchasing and selling of items and services or exchange of data.

Challenges Developing Virtual
Communities

One
of the challenges in developing virtual communities is some of the rural area
cannot access to the Internet. In a rural area, there are fewer people where
their homes and businesses are located far away from one another. All of this
is because the Internet company do not have the purpose to develop communities
in that area due to some of the rural area having a low population density.

Advantages of Virtual Communities

The
advantage of having cloud technology is that we do not have to monitor our
infrastructure 24/7 which is time-consuming. The hosting provider will manage
the cloud solution for us.

In
addition, cloud computing has a hosting provider which will build in
flexibility to limit the risk of security breach and keep data safe from external
parties.

We
can avoid from large capital use on equipment and updates. Moreover, there is
exceptional interest for access to information anywhere, whenever and on any
gadget (Lowe, 2018)

E-Collaboration

Running
the community can be a challenge. Therefore, collaboration is important.
Baglieri and Consoli (2009) noted earlier that there are important key areas  to look for when a community is developed. When
individuals participate in a community, they also consider how the community
can be helpful for their own purpose. Participants need to let those in the
community who have the same interest to feel free to exchange information which
will enrich the community. Some participants may feel shy about sharing ideas.
In such cases, trust will be an important part of the process in order to
encourage their active and open sharing of ideas and information.

Keng,
Hui-Ying, and Ya-Ting (2011) provides information, as proved that shows
different features that are considered useful and needed as a part of the
virtual community. Firstly, in the virtual community, sharing is a prime
feature showcased from all participants. Secondly, the need to feel belonging
and identified within the community. Thirdly, is the impact made through influencing
the group to understand individual value. Fourthly, is the presence of support
among the participants of the community. Lastly, is sharing experiences between
one and another participant.

Development of Virtual Communities

Although
there is a long-lasting focus on online or virtual communities in the western
world, particularly in Australia, it is rare to have successful virtual
communities in long-term as it is often exposed to physical weakness. The
purpose of this study was to develop a theoretical outline or model for the
virtual communities for the specific group of the people.

The
key verdicts, model and concept for this study corresponds and increased
general results explained by Beamish (1995). They also supported the five
necessary multi-disciplinary characteristics that Whittaker found important to
a virtual community. Beamish (1995) described community networks as sharing the
following three characteristics.

The
first characteristic is the focus on local issues in addition to the information
services. Virtual communities allow participants to discuss about local issues.
For example, participants focused on their common interests which is disability
rights.

The
second characteristic is access. Virtual communities work to consider and involve
of participants of community. For example, participants are able to access
information on assistive technology.

The
third and last characteristic is social change and development of community. A
belief exists whereby the system and its communication and information can reinforce
and power the community. For example, the participants are allowed to follow
aspects of capacity building as part of reinforcing and powering their
community.

Quality Assurance Planning

Quality
assurance planning on developing virtual communities involved in several steps,
in order to ensure the quality is up to the standard. These steps are to plan,
do, check, and act. It should also include objectives, roles and
responsibilities. Determining objectives involve in identifying requirements
for the users. Once the objectives are stated, roles and responsibilities may
now be delegate to candidates who are suitable for the job, thus increasing
efficiency and quality.

Future Trends

In
the future, cloud computing would increase cloud storage capacity. Currently,
the total data stored in data centre is 370 EB, in future it is increasing by
1.1 ZB.

Other
than that, the IT executives planned to strengthen the internet quality for
consumers, by giving faster and better connection from network providers.

Cloud
technology will allow the user to move their heavy applications to cloud
technology which will reduce demand placed on user’s machines.

Besides
that, the cloud will become more global, by allowing bigger noteworthy level of
collaboration and communication over associations of all sizes. Thus, more
systems will have the capacity to work consistently over many locations (Roach,
2018).

As
innovation progresses, you’ll have the capacity to have a naturalistic eye to
eye connection that feels like the genuine article. Virtual reality will turn
into a definitive technique for idealism, bringing you and your companions to
new and energizing spots while physically staying in confinement. The start is
both energizing and terrifying, and it’s ideal around the bend.
