History

With the headquarters
in San Francisco, and 20 different apartment complexes in Washington, Oregon,
California and Idaho. Wild Wood Apartment managers have been facing problems
with preparing reports on new tenants, collecting of rents, closing out leases,
occupancies, the total expenses in maintenance and repairs. As a result, the manager
at corporate headquarters has expressed concerns about the accuracy and
authenticity of their reports.

To put at rest of these
problem and better the ease and effectiveness of the apartment managers, the
corporate manager at the headquarters have recommended a rationalize database
that can be used by apartment managers to track their daily businesses and make
their reports.

 

Scope

The
database will pave way for managers to store and track the daily, weekly,
monthly and quarterly business of their apartment, to enable them prepare their
reports. The database will track all the relevant information from the 20
apartment such as lessee’s records, payment status, complaints, vacancy rate,
expenses on maintenance and repairs and total revenue

 

Constrains

The
database will not track the lease out and the occupancy tenant financial information.
It will not make automatic payment to the apartment managers and corporate
manager at the headquarters.

 

Objectives

Tasks
and Timeline

1.      Gathering Data:
This involves accumulating information’s from the past reports sent by the
mangers, interviews, questionnaires, and observations on concerns. Time
allocated: 3 weeks.

Deliverable:
A list of questions for interviews, observation and text of the questionnaires.

 

2.      Analyzing Data:
The information accumulated will be examined to decide better business rules
and preceding data type.  Time allocated:
2 weeks

Deliverable:
List of business rule and basic entities to be reviewed.

 

3.      Normalization:
Gathering all the information of the company to avoid redundancies.. Time
allocated: 1 week

Deliverable: Entity
relation diagram for review.

 

4.      Building the physical database:
The data model will be translated to RDBMS. Tables containing columns with
specific data type and relational and other constraints created. Time
allocated: 4 weeks

Deliverables:
Drawing a plan structure of the database for review.

 

5.      Testing and Security:
Testing the general database security and business rules. Time allocated 3
weeks

Deliverable:
Documented test results.

 

6.     
Database
Completion and installation:

All changes are integrated, and the database
installed on a server. The database is tested for access and connections. Time
allocated: 3 weeks.

 Deliverables:
Working database is delivered to Wild Wood Apartments and the Headquarters.

 

       Total time period from the beginning and
