multitudinous victims and perpetrators after, still bullying exists. It would
still continue to affect the victims, even though, on the positive notice we
have gone far battling it. But, the victims may have not yet move on from the
experience. In terms of long term bullying or even short terms, it has a lot of
effects mostly bad to the helpless people experiencing it. The effects of
bullying are depression and anxiety, decreased in academic achievements and
more likely, out of school youth.

One
of the leading effects of bullying is depression and anxiety. Bullied feels
like s/he is alone. Hence, resulting into deep sadness and loneliness. These
effects could lead to more serious damages like abnormal changes in sleeping
patterns, eating patterns and/or worse, anorexia. Physically, they loss
interest in doing some of the activities they love doing back then. Which, can
be observed until even early adulthood if bullying was done during youth. This
can furthermore affect their productivity since most of the victims get low
self-esteem and lack self-confidence. “The reasons for being bullied
reported most often by students include physical appearance, race/ethnicity,
gender, disability, religion, sexual orientation” (National Center for
Educational Statistics, 2016).

In
regards with that, they experience decreased in their academic performances.
Studies shows that the victims would not function that much since their
perpetrators are in school and the bullying was more likely than not made
inside the school, campus or classrooms, they lack interest of going. If ever
they might go, their full focus is not within the lessons and the requirements.
In addition to this, based in the fact aforementioned by the NCES, the reasons
why students are bullied in school is because of what they look like. Clearly,
the target is their self-esteem. With a student’s self-esteem at low, and
together battling depression and anxiety, they more likely to really would not
excel in terms of their academics. These cause low to failing grades.

With
failing grades, the victim, worse, might get dropped out or kicked out due to
incompetence. Since they think they are beyond repair and everything was
shattered and messy, they just accept their fate. They become out of school
youth and just be contented to being at home. Who can blame them if they don’t
want to go to school—the place where they were physically and/or verbally
and/or mentally and/or emotionally abused by a bully? They got anxious with
almost everything. They felt like the world is right in front of them, falling.
Adding to the fact that, this can trigger depression. Worse, suicide.

In
conclusion, bullying is a socially unacceptable behavior caused by both social
rejection and various underlying drivers. The main risk factors include
personality, psychosocial factors such as social rejection, struggle for power,
family risk factors such as painful childhood experiences, and poor parenting.
Despite all these risk factors, the effects of bullying outweigh the benefits
of bullying. However, it is important to understand that bullying is a deviance
that can be controlled and eliminated. It is also important to understand that
the statistics provided above may not be reliable because there are cases in
which bullying incidences are not reported or under reported.
