The observed event took place in a Petaling Street restaurant on Wednesday afternoon. At that time, the restaurant was not really busy, then the customers came and the waiter guided the customers to a small round table which is suitable for two people. A specific form of non-verbal communication is paralanguage. Paralanguage consists of the non-verbal communication in speech, which may affect the spoken word such as pitch, silence and volume (DeVito 2014). The pitch of voice can show emotion easily. For example, a high pitched voice that becomes thin and tight can show stress or anger. Silence also play a strong role because it means people need time to think or to express emotions (Lane, Koetting ; Bishop 2002).
